Glaucoma Awareness
Glaucoma Awareness Month
January 7, 2019
January is Glaucoma Awareness Month; the perfect time to check in with your eye care provider if it has been a while since your last eye exam. Included in most full eye exams at our office for patients 40 plus are an eye pressure test and visual fields testing. Both are important first steps to catching glaucoma at an early stage before permanent damage or vision loss has occurred. Some risk factors for Glaucoma are: Age - people over 60 are at a higher risk of developing the disease. Family History - when a family member is diagnosed with glaucoma it increases your risk of developing it also. Injury - physical injury can cause elevated pressures in the eye. These are just a few of the risk factors to be aware of. Regular eye exams will provide a great opportunity to stay up to date on your eye health and any changes that are taking place, as well as allowing you to discuss any concerns you have with your eye doctor.
