At 8th Street Vision Centre, we want to help you and your family have healthy vision in the long term. Did you know that the Canadian Association of Optometry recommends that children have their first full eye examination before age three? Start building a history of your eye health with the team at our clinic.

Our optometric team will diagnose and arrange treatment for the following eye conditions and diseases (click on the name for more details):

Some eye conditions may not be associated with a change in your vision, and may cause irreversible damage if treatment is delayed.

Systemic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or multiple sclerosis can also affect the health of your eyes. At our clinic, we provide diagnosis, treatment and education on proper eye care when living with any of these conditions.

What to Expect at a Regular Eye Exam

During the examination, extensive testing will be carried out to evaluate your vision and the health of your eyes. A detailed assessment is performed of the external eye health, internal eye health, eye-glass prescription, eye movement, and peripheral vision.

High-Resolution
Retinal Images

High-resolution retinal photos of the back of your eye are captured in less than a second. Nothing will touch your eye and a very low-flash intensity is used to minimize discomfort. These images create a permanent record of the current condition of your eye.

Photos are taken on every patient (including children) at no extra charge and we review these images with you during your visit. Over the years, changes can be detected and measured, alerting your doctor to potential health risks including diabetic retinopathy, hypertension, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and retinal tears or detachment.

OCT – Optical
Coherence Tomography

OCT is a cutting-edge diagnostic test that provides extremely high-resolution, detailed images of the retina.

It is used to measure changes in the retinal thickness and check for leakage below the retinal surface. This facilitates early detection and treatment for macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetes, vitreo macular adhesions, epiretinal membranes and macular holes.
